About Course

This is a foundation course which deals with the fundamentals of metal cutting and forming processes to enrich the knowledge pertaining to relative motion, mechanics required for various machining process and effect of various parameters on machining. Also to acquaint with the basic knowledge on fundamentals of various metal forming processes

Description

Metal cutting and forming is a section of manufacturing process which is classified under metal removal and non-removal methods to attain the desire shape and size of the product/components from the raw material. In a metal removal process various method of machining process are adopted using different cutting and machine tools. Hence knowledge pertaining to relative motion, mechanism required and effect of various parameters on machining the product/components from various cutting and machine tools are important for efficient machining operations. Most common method of metal non-removal process is by mechanical working of metals to attain the desired size and shape is called as metal forming process. Metal forming is classified in different ways depending upon the type of product/component. Metal behaviour during the mechanical working and the tools required to produce the required shape and size is an important task of a tool designer. Thus, engineers involved in manufacturing sectors must acquire the basic knowledge of metal cutting and metal working process by undergoing this course.

What Will I Learn?

  • Enrich the knowledge pertaining to relative motion, mechanism required for machining and effect of various tool and machine parameters on machining enhance quality of the product (surface finish) with improving tool life and minimize machining cost.
  • Understand the concepts of different metal working processes, metal behaviour during the mechanical working and the tools required to produce the required shape and size from the given raw material.
  • Gain knowledge about different cutting tool materials, tool nomenclature, machine tools.
  • Acquire the knowledge of the mechanism of the machining process and effect of various tool and machine parameters to attain the required and surface finish on machining.
  • Understand the different method of metal working process and the required tools and the procedure to produce high quality product/component.
