This course deals with the concept of metrology for administration of measuring instruments, application for units of measurement, and testing procedures as per the standards andto gain knowledge of measurement systems and methods with emphasis on the instruments/equipment’s used as input, intermediate and out device for measuring and testing.

Description

Metrology is the scientific study of measurement which comprises the administration of measuring instruments, application for units of measurement, and testing procedures which are commonly established in either engineering or according to standards. The purpose is to provide accurate and reliable measurements for engineering application as Metrology provides the science, techniques, and precision measuring devices that are used to determine if parts or features of parts fit within the tolerances and dimensions specified for the part.In order to thoroughly grasp the concept of measurement technically, metrology is divided into two subfields. These two subfields in metrology are: scientific or fundamental metrology, applied or industrial metrology. In the course both the field of measurements are incorporated so that engineers after completion of the course be familiar with the type of measurements, means of measurement and testing to be adopted in engineering according to the standards.
